St Elvis lived in Wales around the year 454 AD. He reputedly baptised St David, the patron saint of Wales.
A church was established in his name and two ancient Cromlech (pre-historic stones) remain on the site, near to the village of Solva, Pembrokeshire.
St Elvis’ saint’s day is 12 September.
In 2000 Cardiff University published a paper written by the historian Terry Breverton that claimed that the Presley family’s name was taken when they arrived in America to reflect their heritage of being from the Preseli Hills in Wales and a Presley child born in 1935 was named after St Elvis.
‘Camino’ is a Spanish word for a pilgrim path.
The first Elvis Camino is taking place on Saturday 12 September, starting in St Davids and walking 11.2km/ 7 miles along the Welsh Coast Path through Solva and on to the site of St Elvis Church. There is also the option of a shorter 2km/1.3 mile walk joining in Solva.
The walk will be in aid of Solva Care, a charity that enables residents to stay in their homes by providing support to counteract loneliness and isolation.
Solva Care will also be staging several Elvis events in the village during the day including the local Ukulele Orchestra welcoming the walkers into Solva and an After-Walk Party in the Solva Memorial Hall.
